Local Farmer's Markets

This past weekend we went to the local Farmer's Market. There are actually two places you can check out. Both have some great finds. 
  1. The first place is the Clear Lake Shores Farmer's market on FM2094. The open air market is next to Skippers restaurant.  
  2. The Kemah Farmer's Market is at the corner of FM2094 and Hwy146
You will usually find fresh produce, breads, jarred preserves, jewelry and other hand crafted goods. I usually make a beeline to the produce counter to get the freshest items. All these vendors are typically local. If you vote local with your wallet that means you are a "Locavore" (one who eats foods grown locally whenever possible). Hope you can check it out sometime and find something you like.

The past month has included some tough moments for our family. My daughter has had three back to back ear infections. My son had a stomach virus and I've been a basket case worrying about them! Taco Salad.... Ole'

We eat our fair share of Tex Mex food! However, I always think it's funny when we go to other places (outside the Houston, TX area) and we end up eating at a Mexican restaurant and we are sadly disappointed because it tastes nothing like at home. Tex Mex is a very different from traditional Mexican.  Queso is a staple in this area of the US. Everyone knows what queso is. It is not that cheese substitute they serve at ball fields with chips. I have a friend who could survive alone on just queso (You know who you are)!  Also, I have found that everyone rates Tex Mex restaurants based on their favorite thing there. For example, my mother-in-law bases her judgement based solely on their margaritas. My Mom bases her judgment based on their green sauce. My friend mentioned above bases her judgement on... you guessed it, queso. Me.... I'm a chicken fajita girl! Flat Iron Steak with Veggie Sauté

Another yummy meal created with the help of Kroger's Prep+Pared meals. This was my husbands favorite. I felt on top of my health game making and eating this meal. The great long term advantage of making these meals are that you get to keep the recipe card that lists the ingredients and the recipe instructions which allows you to easily recreate the meal. I'm most definitely keeping this recipe and plan to make again. My kids ate the steak and the veggies (carrots and cauliflower). For this recipe I added a bit more butter to what was called for and added in some minced garlic when tossing the veggies together. Last week was tough for me when I found out about the news in Santa Fe HS. This hit too close to home and has shaken me to my core. I'm so protective of my children and cannot imagine the pain those families and affected kids are feeling right now. I do not know the answer and I think we as a community have more questions that answers.
